Ever wish you could live in the world of your favorite novel? Jane + Alfonso did just that for one evening, with their book-themed wedding inspired by the novel The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern.

The wedding and reception was held in downtown Los Angeles, at The Last Bookstore, known for its archways of books, labyrinth of shelves, and hidden passageways. The venue was perfect for two book lovers: Alfonso is an artist and independent bookseller, while Jane is an aspiring writer and librarian. Even a non-book lover can appreciate the wonder of The Last Bookstore’s emporium of swooping sculptures and unique decorations: a woolly mammoth head on the wall, a crochet web, bicycle-wheel chandeliers, and book sculptures that swoop grandly from one end of the store to the other.

The bookstore paired perfectly with the steampunk style of the evening. Jane and her maid of honor wore gorgeous Victorian style dresses, fully adorned with black-and-white parasols to match. In fact, black-and-white circus stripes were a visual throughout the decor, showing up on mini big-top treat boxes, custom wine labels, peanut bags, and more. Victorian silhouettes also made an appearance. The couple’s elegant profiles were printed on the wine bottles, as well as atop their dazzling red and white cupcake tree. To top it all off, colorful and playful masquerade masks were given as favors and guests wore them throughout the night.

This bookish-couple are masters of the DIY wedding. Alfonso hand-painted the book cover centerpieces with the covers from the couple’s favorite books (man, is he talented!). Additionally, the two also created light bulb table vases, hand-painted clockwork table numbers, and a wedding scroll for the officiant. And, the couple also took a special wine-making class and produced their own vino for the evening!

If the night wasn’t magical enough, the evening’s entertainment also included a magic show. No night circus would be complete without card tricks, levitating furniture, and a woman cut in half!
